In our holler, we grew up bonding with or rejecting each other with varied and inconsistent emotions. Denying recognition to some of our people, often our less positioned folk—this erodes and destroys our authenticity and culture. People know we really can’t hide anything. We are here witha purpose, some encourage and accept all. Everyone needs and desires acceptance and affirmation with respect; this defines a fully developed human being. Each of us, here ever so briefly, to struggle, envision and clarify, dissolving in our hearts differences or remaining split-off forever. At all levels of our society we need to be integrating and making inroads to our deeper common humanity. At least, that is my intentions as a visual artist; overcoming superficiality, embracing neglected people, demystifying and destroying stereotypes, exposing and correcting regional and national misunderstandings and prejudice against specific rural peoples and all peoples in general.
